| An Affordable Solution for Treating and Preventing Colic
"Colic" is a general term that refers to abdominal pain. There are many causes of abdominal pain in the horse, some of which can be life-threatening. Most horse owners and veterinarians are well aware of the potential impact colic can have on a horse, and often take preventative measures to reduce the risk of it occurring in their animal(s).
Despite aggressive preventative care, however, equine colic is still a common problem in the south. Fortunately, recent developments in veterinary techniques have greatly improved the prognoses for horses experiencing colic. The expense of treating horses with colic, however, can often present financial stress to the client. Consequently, many horses with colic that would otherwise carry a good prognosis with treatment, are being euthanized due to a lack of available funds.
Many companies currently provide equine insurance that is similar in design to that available for people. However, most policies are laden with restrictions and the monthly expense can be excessive.
We at The Atlanta Equine Clinic (AEC) recognize this problem and have created a solution for our clients: affordable equine colic assistance. For as low as $6.60 per month, we will provide financial assistance in the event that your horse requires colic treatment. This includes hospitalization, fluid therapy, supplies, medications, intensive care and even surgery.
Listed below are a variety of plans that are available to all clients' horses undergoing all types of colic treatment. Assistance is all-inclusive up to a sum of $5000.00/ year. (On average, horses undergoing colic surgery at AEC usually incur an expense of approximately $2500.00). A few restrictions do apply; these are listed below. If we can address any questions or concerns that you may have regarding the program and/or if you would like to participate, please stop by the clinic or call the office at the number above.
