Dr.
Hoyt Cheramie
Doctor
Hoyt Cheramie’s interest in equine veterinary medicine
was sparked during time spent on his grandfather’s working
cattle ranch in southwest Mississippi. Hoyt’s interest
in helping horses became
a passion after a 2-year-old
colt he raised during high
school was lost due to a
strangulating colon torsion (colic). Consequently,
he has dedicated the last
17 years to learning and practicing
equine medicine and surgery.
Hoyt graduated
from the Louisiana State University’s School of Veterinary
Medicine in 1993 and practiced for one year in Kentucky prior
to completing a large animal internship at the University of
Tennessee’s College of Veterinary Medicine. He then moved
to southwest Virginia where he completed a surgical residency
and subsequently spent time on the teaching staff at the Virginia-Maryland
Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. Prior to joining The
Atlanta Equine Clinic, Hoyt worked at a private equine practice
in southeast Louisiana.
Hoyt
moved to Georgia to further pursue his interest in equine
surgery and lameness in our state-of-the-art hospital.
He is accompanied by his wife Lesley (also a veterinarian)
and their two children Emily and Eli. Hoyt’s expertise
as an equine surgeon coupled with his experience both in
university and private practice settings make him a tremendous
addition to The Atlanta Equine Clinic team.
